SEBBM´s Prizes 2021
In order to reward the work of its youngest members, the SEBBM annually announces the following research prizes:
20 abril: Inicio de plazo para presentar comunicaciones.
15 de Junio: Fin de la cuota temprana y fin del plazo para envío de comunicaciones.
25 de Julio: Aceptación de comunicaciones orales y pósters.
In order to reward the work of its youngest members, the SEBBM annually announces the following research prizes:
Bruker Española offers a prize of 1,000€ to a young SEBBM member, with a maximum of fifteen years since Doctoral Thesis Defence, first author of a paper published during the biennium 2020-2021in any of the disciplines included in structural biology. The candidate laboratory must be located in Spain or Portugal. The winning candidate will deliver a 15 minute lecture during the SEBBM Congress 2021.
The Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona (IBUB) recognizes with 2,500€ the scientific work carried out in Spain by a SEBBM member with a maximum of twelve years since Doctoral Thesis Defence The winning candidate will deliver a lecture during the SEBBM Congress 2021.
The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) offers a first prize of 1,000€ and two second prizes of 500€ to the best scientific article published in 2020-2021 by a young member of the SEBBM working in Spain. Candidates must be the first author of the article with a maximum of ten years since Doctoral Thesis Defence The winning candidate will deliver a lecture during the SEBBM Congress 2021.
The «Best Scientific Image of the Year» will be chosen from the images published every month in the “Science Art Gallery” section of the SEBBM´s website. The winner must be a SEBBM member and be registered in the Barcelona 2021 Congress. The award consists of a first prize of 600€and a 300€ second prize. Prizes will be awarded at the Closure and Award Ceremony of the SEBBM Congress 2021.
The SEBBM and the Lilly Foundation offer the Margarita Lorenzo Scientific Prize of 2,000€, in memory of Dr. Margarita Lorenzo, whose work of international prestige in the field of metabolism and insulin signaling is considered an example to be followed by the new generations of Spanish biochemists and molecular biologists. The award will recognize the best work presented in the thematic field of «Diabetes, obesity and metabolic regulation» at the SEBBM Congress by young members with a maximum of fifteen years since Doctoral Thesis Defence. The prize will be awarded by the president of the SEBBM and a representative of the Lilly Foundation in a plenary session of the SEBBM Congress 2021, where the winner will deliver a 25-minute lecture.

“Muscle p38 MAPKs: novel targets for the regulation of inter-organ communication in obesity and type 2 diabetes”
The SEBBM offers two prizes of 200€ to the authors of the posters (SEBBM members, with a maximum of six years since Doctoral Thesis Defence) that achieve the highest impact in social networks during the celebration of the SEBBM Congress 2021. It will be an essential requirement to use the Congress hashtag (#SEBBM21) to quantify this impact. The Social Network Prize will be awarded at the Closure and Award Ceremony of the SEBBM Congress 2021.
A Poster Prize of 200€, kindly supported by FEBS Letters, will be awarded to PhD students or early-stage post-docs, with a maximum of ten years since Doctoral Thesis Defence, presenting unpublished work that fits within the scope of FEBS Letters – basic research studies that are novel, advance knowledge, and provide mechanistic insights.
Three Poster Prizes of 200€, and 2 second prizes of 100 €, kindly supported by SEBBM and the 43rd Congress SEBBM, will be awarded to PhD students or early-stage post-docs, with a maximum of six years since Doctoral Thesis Defence, presenting unpublished work regarding basic research studies that are novel, advance knowledge, and provide mechanistic insights.
